After completing the global practice analysis, the Education Advisory Committee approved a revised version of the GBIK. Societies can play a crucial role in the success of the practice analysis process by:

Assisting in recruiting volunteers to participate in the employer and member panel sessions

Proposed Revised Code and Standards Open for Comment

The CFA Institute Standards of Practice Council is seeking public comment on proposed changes to the organization's Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. New Pricing for Speaker Retainer Program

Fees for using the Speaker Retainer Program (SRP) have been reduced significantly this year. The new pricing model is as follows:

In region: US$1500
Out of region: US$2500

Society Scholarship Fee to Increase

The society scholarship fee, paid by the scholarship recipient, will increase to US$225 for the June 2010 CFA examinations. The new price reflects the increased curriculum costs. View more information on the Society Scholarship Program.

Global Scholarships

Global scholarship recipients who pass Level I in 2009 will automatically receive a scholarship for the 2010 Level II examination. This scholarship will cover all but the cost of the CFA exam curriculum. Following the conclusion of the 2009 pilot Global Scholarship Program in February 2009, CFA Institute has continued to explore opportunities to offer reduced exam fees for those individuals with demonstrated financial need; CFA Institute will notify societies as opportunities become available.

Expiring Applications

Membership applications awaiting society approval remain "Under Review -- Society" for six months, after which time these requests will be expired in the Society Portal if no society action has been taken. Please review the "Applications" tab in the Society Portal to ensure action is taken prior to expiration deadlines.

High-Net-Worth Investor Research Study Results

CFA Institute recently conducted a survey of high-net-worth individuals in the United States to obtain benchmark levels of awareness of and sentiment toward CFA Institute and CFA charterholders in order to inform future advertising efforts. Other factors were investigated around high-net-worth individuals' use of advisers to add insight into messaging and to understand the motivations of the high-net-worth audience. Society Management

Level 1 Funding for Fiscal Year 2010

The amount of Level 1 funding for fiscal year 2010 will be determined through the budgeting process and approved by the CFA Institute Board of Governors in late July, after which, details will be communicated to societies. Although it is not definite at this point (and, again, subject to final board action), the expectation is that the amount of funds available next year will be similar to what has been provided to societies this year. Level 2 funding also is being proposed for continuation in FY2010.

Start Planning Your Charter Recognition Event

Charter recognition events are a great opportunity to collaborate with neighboring societies to book speakers. Now is the time to begin thinking about your society charter recognition event, which can be held between September 2009 and January 2010. More details will be provided in the July issue of Society Leader Update.

Membership Renewals for 2009-2010

Members who have not yet renewed will be reminded by e-mail in June to pay their society and CFA Institute dues and file their Professional Conduct Statement (PCS) for the 2009-2010 membership year. In advance of the e-mail reminder, you should consider using your website and a direct communication to your members to reinforce the value provided by society membership.

The India Association of Investment Professionals distributed a survey one month prior to their first annual forecast event and used the results (PDF)�to help guide the content of their event.

Membership Renewals for 2009-2010

Members may now renew their membership online for the 2009-2010 membership year. All active members will be notified by e-mail and postal mail in May that they may file their Professional Conduct Statement and pay dues online (view a sample (PDF)of the renewal communication). During the renewal process, members will complete their professional profiles, which will enrich your society's demographic data. Members will also have an opportunity to opt in to a public member directory that is currently under development.

U.S. Based Societies: Don't Forget to File Your e-Postcard

Tax-exempt organizations with gross annual receipts of $25,000 or less may be required to file Form 990-N, also known as the "e-Postcard". Visit the IRS website for more information.
